Well, the name says it all: A smart website acts as a +1 on your team and is the perfect member you need to scale your business overnight with the help of AI (Artificial Intelligence). What is a SMART Website? This is a term not many web development agencies use, but this type of website does more than just give an online presence; it takes actions on your behalf, sets up meetings with clients even while you sleep or on a date with your partner, follow up on potential paying clients ensuring that you never miss a single lead.
Having a website isn’t just about having content or a domain name. It is most important that a website has what people come for, be it an e-commerce website, an informational website, or even the most random websites, should solve the visitors’ needs in just a few scrolls.
These are just a few things a website must have to experience growth:
Stop Designing and Start Thinking
What kind of experience do you want your visitors to have on your website?
Don’t just strive to have a cool website, because having a cool website is costly, and of course, does not focus on capturing leads, and they usually have little or no CTA forms or buttons apart from their phone number or customer support email on some random corner of the website.
So think carefully about what you want to achieve from having this website, come up with a plan, and work with that plan with the customer’s best interest at heart, because they are the ones putting money in your bank account or credit card or wherever you keep your money.
I had a friend whose name is Arabella. She ran a bakery store not far from where I used to live in Sacramento. One day, she came to me wanting a “modern and smart website” – you know, all sleek and minimal, unlike the one she already had. But after like 10 minutes or so of talking with her and going through the website, I realised her real problem wasn’t looking modern. Customers couldn’t find her opening and closing hours or figure out how to order a birthday cake. That’s not a design problem, that’s a business problem.
Keep your menu simple. I don’t care how many services you offer – pick the 5-7 most important ones. And for the love of all that’s holy, don’t call your services page “Solutions.” I don’t know what that means. “Web Design Services” – now that I get.
Make the Path Obvious
Every page should scream “DO THIS NEXT!” Don’t make me play detective to figure out how to hire you. Homepage → Services → Contact. Or Homepage → About → Get Quote. Pick one path and make it impossible to miss.
Your Website Better Work on my iPhone 5!
I’m probably reading this on my phone right now. If your site looks like garbage on mobile, you just lost 70% of your potential customers. Not “it’s a little hard to read” – I mean straight up bouncing to someone else.
Don’t Be a Walking Design Crime Scene
I see it all the time – websites that look like a crayon box exploded. Pick 2-3 colors. Use 2 fonts, max. Make your buttons look the same. Think “professional human being,” not “I just discovered Photoshop.”
